Film Trailer Conventions

The main aim of a trailer is to entice the viewer to want to see the film. It displays the key moments in the film and provides the viewer with an insight into the narrative.

Conventions-

  • They provide the audience with information about the film.
  • They give an outline of the film, without giving away the ending, as this leaves the audience with suspense and therefore making them want to see the whole film.
  • Trailers are normally around 2-3 minutes long.
  • Show the audience the main settings of the film in order to familiarise them.
  • Introduces the main characters and allows the audience to engage with them.
